Kutless

The band Kutless is fast becoming my favorite Christian rock group. The thing I like most about the band is how they can really rock out, but then also sing some beautiful worship music.

The first Kutless album that I bought was Strong Tower, which is a worship album. After listening to that, I was surprised to hear songs from their other albums that have more of an edge, such as this one and this one. Both are You Tube videos from Kutless' Live from Portland (Oregon, not Maine - although, I am sure I am the only one who thought that) DVD.

It amazes me to see these guys, who look like a typical young rock band that you might hear on any mainstream, alternative rock-type radio station, but have a passionate heart for Jesus that is reflected in their music.

I was always under the impression growing up (in a non-Christian home) that people who had that level of devotion to God were the "Church Lady" type. Having no other frame of reference, I believed in the caricature of Christians that is put forth by our pop culture media.

When I see bands like Kutless, and the countess others in the Christian rock genre, as well as mainstream artists that are Christian, reaching the youth of today with their message of Jesus' love, it really gives me hope for our future.

I love this clip below, again from Live from Portland. The song is Sea of Faces, a great song, but what I love about it is the first two minutes or so of the clip, when Jon Micah Sumrall, the band's lead singer, talks about God's grace and love.

I want to share one final video. Here Kutless performs Better is One Day, by Matt Redmond. At the end they go into the last verse of We Fall Down, by Chris Tomlin. It's a great video if you like the contemporary worship music. Both of these songs are on the album Strong Tower.
